Garrett Crochet's Rehab Gets Major Update Before Red Sox-Guardians Game
Boston Red Sox left-handed pitcher Garrett Crochet has been out of the rotation for manager Chad Tracy's team for over a month. His last outing came on April 25 against the Baltimore Orioles, when he tossed six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks with seven strikeouts.
After this fantastic outing, he was placed on the 15-day injured list with left shoulder inflammation. This was disappointing for Red Sox fans because their star southpaw seemed to have a turning point early in the season.
This is the first time that Crochet has been on the injured list since 2023, when he was on the Chicago White Sox, as he has made 32 starts each of the past two years.
The 26-year-old lefty has been progressing nicely in his rehab to get back to the mound for the Red Sox, but he hit a speed bump this weekend. Tracy announced before the Red Sox take on the Cleveland Guardians on Sunday that Crochet has been dealing with lat tightness.
"Garrett Crochet has had a setback, Chad Tracy says," according to Mass Live reporter Chris Cotillo. "Lat tightness has popped up in the last few days and they are halting his progression for now. He won't throw a live BP Tuesday as expected."

This is a disappointing update for Crochet, who made six starts this season before going on the IL. In those appearances, he had a 3-3 record with an ERA of 6.30 in 30 innings. He struck out 37 batters and walked 11 in that time.
The 2026 season is Crochet's second on the Red Sox, as he came to the team last year and was incredible, finishing second in American League Cy Young voting behind Tarik Skubal.
Whenever Crochet is able to get back on the field for Boston, there's no doubt he will be looking to get back into that Cy Young-caliber form.
