What Caitlin Clark Noticed About Indiana Fever Rookie Raven Johnson
Rookie Raven Johnson impressed for the Indiana Fever during Thursday's 90-88 loss to the Golden State Valkyries. She recorded a career-high 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting, along with four rebounds, two assists and one block.
With superstars Caitlin Clark and Kelsey Mitchell struggling offensively, combining for 30 points on 8-of-25 shooting, it was Johnson who stepped up and gave the Fever a boost on both ends of the floor.
That being said, Clark was full of praise for her rookie following her career game. On Saturday, before Indiana played the Portland Fire, the 24-year-old guard talked about Johnson and how she's evolving as a player.
Clark also shared her observations about Johnson's game, particularly her offense. She highlighted how the former South Carolina Gamecocks star is gaining more confidence in her shot and improving her ability to attack the basket.
"I thought Raven was amazing last game," Clark said of Johnson. [She] brought that spark off the bench that we kind of needed and, you know, getting confident with her shot, her shot-making ability. She's getting downhill, getting her feet in the paint, setting her teammates up."
Johnson, who was taken by the Fever with the 10th overall pick in the 2026 Draft, arrived in the WNBA as a defense-first guard. She's still elite on that end of the floor, but as Clark noted, she's getting "more comfortable" and starting to figure out the level of play in the pros.
"Then, obviously, the thing she can do every single game is be disruptive defensively," Clark stated. "She picks up full [court], so I think she's starting to figure it out and get more comfortable."

Clark expressed her belief that Johnson is going to be a "big part of this team going down the stretch," adding that they "really need" her to be successful.
Indiana made it all the way to the WNBA semifinals in 2025 without Clark. Now that she's healthy, and with Johnson in the fold, Indiana is expected to be a title contender once again.
