Mavericks' Kyrie Irving Gets Honest on Seeing Knicks Reach NBA Finals

Kyrie Irving hasn’t played any NBA basketball in months, but continues to observe the league from afar, recently watching as the New York Knicks reached the NBA Finals.

The All-Star guard hopped on a Twitch stream recently to share his thoughts on various topics, including the excitement surrounding this Knicks squad.

“They done made it to the NBA Finals. They done earned their ticket. They did everything they could in the regular season to prepare, and now I’m excited to watch them too, especially with their team. Mike Brown leading the helm and you know, Jalen Brunson as a great PG,” Irving said in a Twitch clip.

Irving called it “impressive” that Brunson kept improving each year, especially while playing in “the hub of New York City.” He also praised the Knicks for having the right pieces built around Brunson to “stay successful.”

Irving spent part of his career playing in New York, but for the Brooklyn Nets, a team that never really reached the NBA Finals or got close during his career. However, he was in the NBA Finals three times with LeBron James and the Cavaliers, winning once.

In addition, Irving played on the Dallas Mavericks with Luka Doncic during their run to the NBA Finals two seasons ago. They lost to the Boston Celtics, but the All-Star guard certainly understands how exciting it can be for a city to have their team reach the Finals.

For the Knicks and their fans, it’s been a long time coming. The last NBA Finals appearance was 27 years ago, when they played the San Antonio Spurs and lost. That team featured Tim Duncan and David Robinson.

They could potentially face another Spurs squad and an imposing big man this year. Victor Wembanyama and his team are in a massive Game 7 on Saturday in Oklahoma City against the Thunder.

Meanwhile, Kyrie appears excited to watch other players get their chance to contend for that first championship, which is a sign of his growth and maturity in the league.

He also indicated he feels 100 percent healthy and is ready to get back at it on the basketball court, a great sign for the Dallas Mavericks heading into the offseason.
