President Trump Reveals What Jaxson Dart Told Him At Rally
New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart has been in the headlines lately due to his connection with President Donald Trump.
On May 22, Dart introduced Trump at a campaign event at Rockland Community College. That decision didn't sit well with plenty of NFL fans. Giants pass rusher Abdul Carter also had an issue with his teammate supporting the current president of the United States.
"If he chooses to align himself with a man like President Trump, it's my responsibility based on what I believe and what I stand on to not only show my teammates that I'm against that but to show the world," Carter said, via Pro Football Talk. "And that doesn't mean that we have to spread hate. It doesn't mean that me and Jaxson hate each other or we have beef. I sit next to Jaxson every day. Every team meeting we're close, we talk, you know, we just - as long as we make sure we got the same goal as a team and our goals align, which they do, I feel like that's all that matters."
Trump addressed all the backlash that Dart is receiving during a sit-down interview with Fox News.
"So, when Jaxson gets harassed a little bit, he's also loved more," Trump said. "Because we have more people than they do. And a lot of the people that you think, like people in Los Angeles, wealthy people that I see them all the time there, hitting me a little bit, and they meet me, they say, 'Sir, I voted for you.' I said, 'I know. I know. I can tell.' Guys voted for me."
Trump also revealed that Dart told him, "I love you, sir," while at the rally.
Jaxson Dart defends his actions.
Speaking to the media Friday afternoon, Dart issued a statement about his time spent with Trump.
"This was a unique opportunity. You know, being asked and given the opportunity to introduce the President of the United States, you know, my thinking was pretty simple. And the fact of, you know, I've always loved this country. I have extended family members who have fought in wars. I have two uncles who have retired from the Air Force Academy, and served themselves. And I have a great grandfather who served as Secretary of Treasury at some point. So the president position has always been a position that I have always respected, regardless of political affiliation, regardless of political party, and my intentions were just that," Dart told reporters.
"I also understand in this world, politics can be a sensitive matter, a sensitive topic. I also understand that I am the quarterback of the New York Giants, and that involves a lot of responsibility. It's under a limelight, under a microscope, and there's a lot that comes with that, and it's been something that I've embraced. … Most importantly, I can honestly say that I love every single one of my brothers, my teammates on this team regardless of politics, regardless of religious beliefs, regardless of anything that may be different between us. Like, I love them and they know exactly what kind of person that I am, who comes into the facility every day."
Will this situation negatively impact the Giants' season? Only time will tell, but the young quarterback has made it clear he won't apologize for his beliefs.
