Katie Boulter Calling For Immediate Change To French Open After Scary Injury
British tennis star Katie Boulter is demanding that Roland Garros makes immediate changes to some of their courts.
On Thursday night, Boulter suffered a 7-5, 4-6, 2-6 loss to Anastasia Potapova in the second round of the French Open. She nearly suffered a catastrophic injury at Court 13 as she tripped over a Lacoste advertising block behind the baseline.
Some fans thought Boulter should consider sueing Roland Garros for having its advertising blocks at the back of the court.
"Roland Garros really deserves to be sued, she was lucky it wasn't something serious but for real... what's the point of those things on court? Write the name Lacoste on that banner behind and that's it, they risk player's health for sponsors," one fan said.
"Accident waiting to happen. I was actually watching the Darderi match at the same time as Katie's match and he stood on one of them at exactly the same time as Katie tripped over one. Could have been a lot worse for her," another fan wrote.
Boulter addressed her injury on social media Friday morning. Unsurprisingly, she's calling for a massive change to the French Open's advertising strategy.
"THESE THINGS HAVE TO GO," Boulter wrote on X. "Got lucky last night but next time I might not be…"
It's an accident waiting to happen.
Unfortunately, Turkish star Zeynep Sonmez suffered an injury this Friday during a doubles match because she tripped over the same exact advertising sign.
Sonmez, 24, received medical assistance for roughly 10 minutes before having to retire mid-match.
"I stand with Katie. Five incidents in five days," Sonmez said. "I left the court with two stitches and a bruised knee. Thankfully, it wasn't worse."
Hopefully, the decision-makers at Roland Garros address this very serious problem.
