EA Sports FC 26 Patch Notes Target Gameplay While Adding New Tournament Mode

With the World Cup just weeks away, the developers at EA SPORTS have dropped one of the biggest seasonal updates yet for EA SPORTS FC 26. According to the official EA SPORTS FC 26 Pitch Notes, the update introduces a new 48-team international tournament mode alongside gameplay, Career and FUT changes.

EA SPORTS officially revealed the ‘The World's Game Update' for EA SPORTS FC 26, bringing a new 48-team international tournament mode, Team Press gameplay balancing, FUT Tokens and Career Mode additions ahead of this summer's international football events. The update launches May 28 with additional content rolling out throughout June and July.

New 48-Team Tournament Mode

Starting June 4, players can jump into a standalone international tournament inspired by this summer's global football event.

Tournament Features

• 48 national teams
• 12 groups
• Round of 32 knockout stage
• 53 fully licensed playable nations
• 41 nations participating in the summer competition
• New stadiums including Gillette Stadium and BMO Field

EA also confirmed nations like Cabo Verde, Uzbekistan and Indonesia will be playable.

Gameplay Changes

EA targeted several heavily criticized gameplay mechanics in the update.

Team Press Nerfed

The defensive AI now behaves less aggressively in certain situations.

Changes include:

• Reduced defensive-half pressure
• Less AI double-teaming
• Looser defensive marking
• More tactical spacing

Bruiser PlayStyle Reworked

EA adjusted shoulder challenge outcomes.

Updates include:

• Reduced Bruiser effectiveness
• Better stumble animations
• Improved strength-based outcomes
• New detection for tackles from behind

Intercept Buff

Players with 90+ Interceptions ratings can now unlock elite interception animations without needing the Intercept PlayStyle equipped.

Football Ultimate Team Changes

The Festival of Football event begins June 5 and adds one of the largest FUT refreshes of the year.

Free 93 OVR Pelé

Players who log in between June 5 and July 24 receive:

Penalty Shootouts and Clubs Changes

A new limited-time Penalty Shootouts mode arrives June 28 in FUT and Kick-Off.

Clubs also received one of its biggest progression updates of the FC 26 cycle.

• Level cap increased from 90 to 95
• PlayStyle slots increased from 8 to 9
• Signature PlayStyles increased from 3 to 4
• Fourth Signature PlayStyle unlocked at Level 95
• Fourth Signature PlayStyle can also be upgraded to PlayStyle+

Expanded Archetype Attribute Caps

EA also increased the maximum range for several Archetype-specific attributes, allowing some builds to reach 99 overall ratings in categories like:

• Defensive Awareness
• Short Passing
• Aggression
• Curve
• Tackling

The changes should have a major impact on high-level competitive Clubs builds and overall player customization heading into the summer content cycle.

With international football set to dominate the summer calendar, EA appears to be positioning FC 26 around long-term seasonal live content with the introduction of Tokens, rotating campaigns and expanded tournament integration across multiple game modes.
