Giants Predicted to Keep Kayvon Thibodeaux Amid Trade Talks
The New York Giants struck gold by hiring longtime Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh this offseason.
The Giants have high hopes with Harbaugh in town, and he has a lot of exciting young pieces on this roster.
On the defense, the Giants also have some big names, although pass rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux has been in some trade rumors.
Thibodeaux is playing on his fifth-year option at $14.751 million, and he figures to be a trade candidate, especially if the Giants don't see a long-term future with the former Oregon Ducks star.
Several ESPN experts gave hypothetical trade packages for Thibodeaux, but Giants insider Jordan Ranaan predicted that the team would keep Thibodeaux for now, especially if those were the offers.
"Harbaugh is not interested in a rebuild. He wants to compete for a playoff spot this season. So given that the Giants were originally looking for better than a third-round pick for Thibodeaux, they pass on a third-round pick next year. The Giants could always reconsider their stance on Thibodeaux at the trade deadline depending on the state of the team. But if he has a strong season, they could franchise-tag and trade him next year," Ranaan wrote.
The proposed offers were from the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Los Angeles Rams and New England Patriots.
The proposed offers were for a third, fourth or fifth-round pick, so it isn't a very compelling offer.
Thibodeaux Impressing Giants Staff Early
So far, Thibodeaux is working hard and making strong impressions, according to Ranaan.
"A source said Thibodeaux has impressed the new staff this offseason and is valued significantly higher than what the rest of the league offered," Ranaan wrote.
The Giants have Brian Burns and Abdul Carter in the pass-rushing group, so there might not be room long-term for Thibodeaux, although a strong 2026 season could be important for both sides.
Also, Harbaugh loves having a plethora of pass rushers, so it makes sense for the Giants to hold on to him if the right offer doesn't present itself and potentially reconsider things at the trade deadline.
