Packers' Josh Jacobs released from jail amid domestic violence probe
May 27 (UPI) --Green Bay Packers star Josh Jacobs was released from jail Wednesday, but remains under investigation by the Brown County (Wis.) district attorney's office after being accused of domestic violence.
Jacobs was arrested on potential felonies of suffocation and strangulation, among other referred charges, and booked into Brown County Main Jail on Tuesday in Green Bay, Wis., jail records showed Tuesday morning.
On Wednesday, Brown County district attorney David L. Lasee said his office decided to release Jacobs from custody and requested "further investigation before making a formal charging decision."
The Packers running back initially faced misdemeanor charges of battery/assault, disorderly conduct, criminal damage to property and intimidation, as well as the felony charges, according to jail records.
Chief Michael Renkas of the Hobart-Lawrence Police Department said in a news release that officers were dispatched Saturday to a disturbance involving Jacobs.
Jacobs denied the allegations through an initial statement from his attorneys, David Chesnoff, Clarence Duchac and Richard Schonfeld. The attorneys later said they were "extremely pleased" with his release.
"We are extremely pleased that Josh has been released from custody and that no criminal charges have been field against him," the attorneys said. "As we previously stated, we encourage everyone to keep an open mind while the matter is fully reviewed.
"We remain confidant that, once all of the evidence is gathered and evaluated, it will confirm that no charges should be brought against Josh in the future."
The Packers said they are "aware of the matter" and withheld further comment about the "ongoing legal situation."
Jacobs, 28, has two years remaining on the four-year, $48 million contract he signed with the Packers in 2024. The three-time Pro Bowl selection totaled 1,211 yards from scrimmage and 14 scores over 15 starts last season. He totaled 1,671 yards from scrimmage and a career-high 16 touchdowns in 2024, his first season with the Packers.
Jacobs, who spent his first five seasons with the Las Vegas Raiders, erupted for a career- and league-best 2,053 yards from scrimmage, including 1,653 rushing yards, in 2022 en route to All-Pro honors. He scored 12 times that season for the Raiders.
Chris Brooks, MarShawn Lloyd, Pierre Strong Jr., Damien Martinez and Jaden Nixon are the other running backs on the Packers' roster.
The Packers held their second day of organized team activities Wednesday in Green Bay. They will hold mandatory minicamp from June 9 to 11.
"I know there's going to be a lot of questions about Josh," Packers coach Matt LaFleur told reporters Wednesday in Green Bay.
"I'm gonna stick with the statement that we put out as an organization and just let the process play out."
