Carlo Ancelotti Faces Backlash Over ‘Absurd' Neymar Decision

Carlo Ancelotti's Brazil squad has already sparked debate, and Neymar's inclusion is the call getting the most attention. With the FIFA World Cup now just weeks away, national team announcements are always going to bring controversy, especially when big names are involved.

But Ancelotti's decision to bring Neymar back into the Brazil national team has not gone down well with everyone. Fans, pundits, and former players have started questioning the move, with some even calling it "absurd" given Neymar's recent fitness and form concerns.

Wagner Fernando Velloso is clearly not impressed with Neymar making Brazil's World Cup squad.

The former Brazil goalkeeper argued that Carlo Ancelotti got it wrong by choosing Neymar while leaving out Chelsea's Joao Pedro. His issue is not Neymar's name or legacy, but what he has actually shown recently.

Velloso pointed to Pedro's scoring form and questioned whether Neymar has done enough physically or competitively to deserve the spot.

"I would not call up Neymar," he said, before calling the decision "an absurdity." He also suggested Neymar has not exactly tested himself against the strongest opposition lately, saying he has mainly appeared in easier fixtures. For Velloso, Brazil should be picking form over reputation.

Even though Velloso might feel a certain way, other members of the national team are welcoming Neymar with open arms.

Vinicius Jr's Gesture to Neymar on National Team Call Up

Vinicius Junior is not trying to fight Neymar for Brazil's most famous shirt. Even though Vinicius has worn the No. 10 while Neymar was away, he says the number should go straight back to the Santos star now that he has returned for the World Cup.

"The No. 10 belongs to Neymar," Vinicius said, making it clear there is no awkwardness from his side.

That matters because Brazil's No. 10 is not just another jersey. It carries a legacy, and Neymar has been the face of that number for more than a decade.

His return also adds another emotional layer to Brazil's tournament. After a long injury absence, Neymar has battled back into the squad and now looks set to reclaim his role on the biggest stage.

Vinicius may be Brazil's present and future, but when it comes to the No. 10, he is showing respect to the player he grew up admiring.
