NBA Legend Michael Jordan Makes Time for Pep Guardiola

Michael Jordan is seen on a NASCAR track more often than at an NBA game in recent years. However, the NBA legend made an unexpected appearance during the farewell event of Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola.

Surrounded by trophies, former players, and a decade's worth of memories, Guardiola's last night with the club was nothing but a trip down memory lane. Man City invited former players like Vincent Kompany, Fernandinho, and Ederson to celebrate their manager.

But along with the club alumni, a video message had everyone excited. The host of the night asked everyone to look at the screen as some of Guardiola's good friends had sent positive words since they couldn't make it. One such message was from the Chicago Bulls legend.

He said, "Hey, Pep, this is Michael Jordan. I just want to congratulate you on an unbelievable career". The moment was quite unexpected. The NBA legend then said, "Enjoy your retirement," which was confusing as the Man City manager is only stepping down from his role rather than announcing his retirement.

Being an avid golfer, Jordan ended by saying, "Good luck on the links and keep them straight. Congratulations." While the cameo from the basketball legend may seem unexpected, some would remember how highly Pep thinks of him. In 2023, the Man City manager revealed his three idols to the world.

The list consisted of Tiger Woods, Julia Roberts, and none other than Michael Jordan. The dominance and greatness of all three are what made Guardiola look up to them. And it's fair to say he was also successful in achieving greatness at the club. Departing after 10 years, Man City won 20 trophies under his charge. All the trophies were featured during his farewell event.

Similar to Jordan's time with the Bulls, Guardiola was able to create a dynasty with a team that was constantly favored to win the league. The NBA legend won the NBA Championship six times, completing two separate three-peats. Meanwhile, Pep also won the Premier League six times, including four consecutive titles from the 2020-21 season to 2023-24.

The similarities between the two also extend to their trophy cabinets. With Guardiola now having more time for himself, he may finally get the chance to play a round of golf with Jordan and share their winning mindsets with each other.
