Victor Wembanyama Delivers Message to Spurs Organization After Game 4

Victor Wembanyama once again showed the world why he could be the face of the NBA in the near future. The San Antonio Spurs dominated the Oklahoma City Thunder in Game 4 of the NBA Western Conference Finals. But despite the crucial victory, Wembanyama had other things on his mind.

The Spurs won Game 4 in dominant fashion, 103-82. The victory came after two consecutive losses to the Thunder in the series. The pressure had been building for San Antonio as they faced their first playoff deficit this year. Following the Spurs' defeat in the previous game, Wembanyama addressed his struggle to make his teammates better.

"I need to be more of a team player," he had said. After the Spurs tied the series in Game 4, a reporter pointed out how his teammates believe Wemby has been a great supporting player, unlike how he views himself. "I don't know if I'm hard on myself," he responded in the press conference. "We all have high standards and I know I have a lot of responsibilities but I'm here for it."

While the Spurs won the game by 21 points, Wembanyama believed the team played "better today, not perfect." The 22-year-old further added, "The whole organization, we're gonna have to do things that we didn't sign up for. I'm an employee to play basketball, but I'm not an employee to talk to whoever and find out answers."

Wembanyama ended by saying he needs to find ways to impact the game in multiple areas. Undoubtedly, the Frenchman has been a key difference-maker in the series. He has scored 121 points across the four games while also adding 12 blocks, becoming the first player in the series to surpass the 100-point mark. Meanwhile, Shai Gilgeous-Alexanderfinished Game 4 with 19 points and now sits at 99 total points in the series.

With the series now tied, Wembanyama will continue to instill his mindset throughout the Spurs organization. Whoever wins Game 5 at Paycom Center will be in a strong position to reach the NBA Finals. But at this moment, the Spurs will certainly carry momentum after such a convincing blowout victory.
