"It's like an out-of-body experience for me just because we've been working so hard, and this has been my dream since I took over," Mark Morris coach Chris Mejia said. "This is a dream come true for me."

In the title game, Shyanne Sellers came up to bat with the bases loaded in a tie game with no outs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Seconds before, Mejia had some words of encouragement for the junior.

"I said, 'I know you're gonna get a hit, and we're gonna win this game,'" Mejia said.

That pep talked seem to work well as Sellers smashed a walk-off grand slam to win it for the Monarchs.

"To have it end like that, that's storybook," Mejia said. "You can't ask for anything more."

The Mark Morris players in the dugout ran to home plate with screams of excitement, and they jumped for joy when Sellers crossed the dish to score the final run.

"It was really cool to be able to do that for my girls and see them all light up," she said.

Earlier in the contest, the Monarchs trailed 4-0 after W.F. West hit three consecutive home runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Mark Morris' Mikaila Warfield cries tears of joy after the Monarchs won the 2A State Fastpitch Softball Tournament championship against W.F. West on Saturday, May 23, at Carlon Park in Selah. The junior had a 2-run home run that put the Monarchs on the board.

They got back into the game when Mikaila Warfield hit a 2-run home run in the bottom of the period to pull them within 2.

Even though the Bearcats added another homer in the top of the fifth to go up 5-2, the Monarchs kept rallying.

Taylor Lee started off the bottom of the frame with a dinger of her own to make it a 2-run game once again.

Megan Fugleberg then joined the home-run party shortly after, and the Monarchs were down just 1 run.

In the sixth, Lee hit an RBI single to tie the game at 5-5 before Sellers' game-winning grand slam in the seventh.

"This team has fight in it," Mejia said. 'We don't quit."

Despite giving away five hits, with four being home runs, and five earned runs, Henthorn still struck out 10 batters and prevented the Bearcats from scoring in the final two innings.
