ISPS brings Memorial Day weekend action to Washington with "Battle for the Borst"
May 22-International Slow Pitch Softball (ISPS) is putting on the Memorial Day "Battle for the Borst" Saturday, May 23, at Fort Borst Park in Centralia.
The event marks an important step in the continued growth of ISPS programming across Washington and the Pacific Northwest, giving athletes, teams, directors and fans a stronger platform for competitive slow-pitch play under the ISPS banner, a news release from ISPS stated.
Battle for the Borst is more than a holiday weekend tournament. It is part of the larger ISPS mission to build opportunities at the local, state, national and international levels while connecting communities through organized competition, fair play, and the energy of the slowpitch world, the news release stated.
"Washington has a strong slowpitch culture, and Battle for the Borst gives us a chance to support that community while expanding the ISPS footprint in the Pacific Northwest," Manuel T. Ferrero III, commissioner of International Slow Pitch Softball, said in the release. "We want players to feel like they are part of something global, even when they are competing right in their own backyard."
As ISPS continues to expand through sanctioned events, director opportunities, rankings and international partnerships, regional tournaments like Battle for the Borst help create pathways for athletes and organizers to become part of a worldwide slow-pitch network, the release stated.
Teams, players and supporters are encouraged to follow ISPS for updates, registration information, and future Washington programming.
