State Softball: Mark Morris wins twice to advance to 2A state semifinals
May 22-Mikaila Warfield hit two home runs and Makenzie Henthorn and Shailia Wild added one each as Mark Morris beat Burlington-Edison 11-1 to advance to the 2A state softball semifinals in Selah.
The top-seeded Monarchs, who opened Friday with a 12-0 win over Nathan Hale, will face No. 5 Lynden in the semifinals at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Warfield went 4 for 5 with two home runs and seven RBI in the two wins for the Monarchs. Paisley Fraidenburg was 4 for 6 with five runs, a double and two triples.
Henthorn did not allow an earned run in nine innings pitched with 19 strikeouts.
Ridgefield rallied to beat Deer Park 13-11 to remain alive in the consolation bracket. The Spudders will face Port Angeles in another loser-out game at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Bailey Wolski went 4 for 4 with a double and two RBI, and Abbey Hite went 3 for 4 with a home run and two RBI as the Spudders opened play with a 9-3 win over Selah.
Hite hit another home run in the quarterfinals, but that was the only run the Spudders could muster in a 3-1 loss to W.F. West.
4A state
SKYVIEW FALLS TWICE - Skyview was unable to hold onto a late lead and fell 4-3 to West Valley of Yakima in a loser-out game Friday at the 4A state tournament in Richland.
Malea Figueroa had a two-run double and Madison Paik added an RBI single as the Storm scored three runs in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead.
Behind the solid pitching of Malea Figueroa, who entered the game in the first inning, Skyview was able to take that 3-1 lead into the top of the seventh.
But Calleigh Sinnes belted a two-run home run in the seventh to tie the game 3-3, helping send the game into extra innings.
In the eighth, Tatum Trammell had an RBI single to put the Rams up 4-3. Skyview went down in order in the bottom of the eighth.
Lila Alvarado had an RBI double in Skyview's opening game, but it wasn't enough as the Storm fell to Kamiakin 3-1.
3A state
KELSO FALLS IN CONSOLATION - Kailanah Hagdahl and Karmynn Petrisor hit home runs, but it was not enough to keep Kelso alive in the 3A state tournament in Lacey as the Hilanders fell to Inglemoor 6-3 in a loser-out game.
Hagdahl and Brooke Hefley both went 3 for 4 as Kelso beat Peninsula in a consolation game 6-1.
Hagdahl hit another home run in Kelso's first-round loss to Stanwood 5-3.
