Wizards' Projected AJ Dybantsa Pick is Getting Even Sweeter

The 2026 NBA Combine has come and gone, and now, the moments are inching closer to the main event: the 2026 NBA draft.

NBA mock drafts that have dropped since Combine don’t look too different, but after seeing these players in action, there’s a bit of movement and at least clarity and affirmation at the top.

In a post-Combine mock out on Wednesday, May 20, Isaac Trotter of CBS Sports lays out his picks after Combine. “Beyond the measurements and testing, the conversations behind the scenes provide an illuminating look at where some of the top NBA Draft prospects are trending,” he states.

He has BYU’s AJ Dybantsa going first, as do most mocks, but what he says about the player should make Wizards fans extra happy.

“Drafting for fit can get you in hot water, but not in this spot,” he states in the piece. “Dybantsa fits like a glove with a Wizards outfit that wants to make a surge in the Eastern Conference. Dybantsa’s combination of real-deal wiggle and advanced footwork helps him put loads of pressure on the rim.”

To say Dybantsa fits the Wizards “like a glove” is a big statement, but it makes sense here. This is one of those rare cases where the first pick is purpose-made for the team with that first selection. His time at BYU, with more than 40% of his shots coming at the rim, shows that he’s ready to step into the NBA and shouldn’t have a long learning curve, as well.
