LeBron James Reveals Why Lakers Lost to Thunder
LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers failed to win a game of their Western Conference semifinals bout against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
But James doesn’t believe it was lack of execution, physicality or basketball IQ that led to the sweep. During a recent podcast appearance, the four-time NBA champion blamed the Lakers lack of talent as the reason for the playoff rout.
“We fought and we played to the maximum ability of our team. But, ultimately, if we’re being completely honest, we were out-talented,” he said.

“We were not out worked. We were not, you know, they didn't out physical us,” he added. “They didn't outsmart us. I feel like we were just out talented, you know, by OKC. They just possess so much more talent. At the end of the day we failed in talent. OKC just possessed so much more talent than us.”
The series would have looked much different with a healthy Luka Doncic, who did not play in the final month of the season or playoffs. In the end, Los Angeles lost the first three games by at least 18 points per game, managing to keep the final game of the series close, but ultimately losing 115-110.
Meanwhile, the Thunder evened their Western Conference Finals bout against the San Antonio Spurs with a Game 2 victory on Wednesday night.
