Spurs' Stephon Castle Addresses Turnover Concerns After Game 2 Loss

The San Antonio Spurs were unable to notch back-to-back Western Conference Finals victories over the reigning NBA-champion Oklahoma City Thunder, falling with a 122-113 final score in Game 2.

Veteran guard De’Aaron Fox was unable to take the court for the second consecutive game as he deals with an ankle injury. Rookie guard Dylan Harper suffered a right hamstring injury during the third quarter and was unable to return for the remainder of the game.

These injury issues put a heavy ball-handling load on second-year guard Stephon Castle, who ended the game with nine turnovers. Castle recorded 11 turnovers in the Spurs’ Game 1 double-overtime victory over the Thunder, in which he played 49 minutes.

Castle was asked about these turnovers during his postgame press conference on Wednesday night.

“I think it’s more personal on my end, just really speeding myself up,” Castle said. “Some of it comes with fatigue, but at this point in the season there’s really no excuse.”

“Even after having all those turnovers, we still gave ourselves a chance to win,” Castle added, “Leaving here with that is definitely a plus.”

Castle’s teammates have his back through these turnover struggles.

“Steph is a dog,” Keldon Johnson said after the game. “He’ll figure it out. We support him every step of the way. [He] turned the ball over. We all turn the ball over. It’s not just on Steph.”
