Cam Skattebo Makes Bold Prediction for Giants Season Amid Injury Recovery
Cam Skattebo suffered a gruesome injury against the Philadelphia Eagles in his rookie season with the New York Giants, ending his season in October, much sooner than he and fans had hoped.
While attempting a catch in that Eagles game, linebacker Zack Baun brought him to the ground awkwardly with Skattebo’s foot stuck in the grass, causing his leg to bend awkwardly. He was then carted off the field with his leg in an air cast.
The resulting dislocated right ankle, a fractured fibula, and a ruptured deltoid ligament required surgery and kept him on the sidelines, with Skattebo watching from afar as his team finished 4-13 and last in the division.
He’s been in rehabilitation and recovery mode since his surgery, and based on his recent statement, he’s expecting to be ready to go once the NFL season begins.
During the Giants’ town hall, Skattebo indicated that his rookie season was not “successful” and also dropped a major prediction for the upcoming season.

“Obviously there’s ups and downs in the injury process and coming back and rehabbing, but the mental battle has been the hardest part: making sure that I trust it fully,” Skattebo said, per Associated Press’ Stephen Whyno. “I’m a little ways out. Not too far, but I’ll be ready to go. Week 1, I’ll be ready to go.”
Along with that, Skattebo commented about his rookie season and his massive goal for the Giants’ 2026 season.
“I had 400 yards on 100 carries,” he said, adding, “When I play 17-plus games this year, it’s going to be 300 carries for over 2,000 yards.”
If Skattebo can achieve that feat in a season, he’d join an exclusive list of players that includes Hall of Famers Eric Dickerson, Barry Sanders, Terrell Davis, and O.J. Simpson, as well as active Eagles player Saquon Barkley.
As it stands, no player in the Giants’ history has topped Tiki Barber’s record of 1,860 yards in a season. Barber also holds the second and third-most yards in a season for the team.
The Eagles’ Barkley accomplished his 2,000-yard season in 2024, and Skattebo fully believes he can achieve the same two years later. However, that is all dependent on his return to the field, how well he can perform after his injury recovery, and the team’s game plans.
The Giants have a brand new head coach in former Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh. Additionally, they hired Matt Nagy as the team’s new offensive coordinator, ahead of drafting linebacker Arvell Reese at No. 5 and Miami offensive lineman Francis Mauigoa at No. 10 last month.
