LeSean McCoy Makes Bold Prediction About Shedeur Sanders' Browns Future

The Cleveland Browns' quarterback battle has become one of the NFL's biggest storylines as Deshaun Watson, the former franchise savior, attempts to resurrect his career against Shedeur Sanders, last year’s starter and son of Hall of Famer Deion Sanders.

For months, the debate around 2026 has centered on whether the Browns should fully commit to Sanders' development or give Watson one more shot at securing the job.

Now, a new voice with credibility entered the conversation. Former NFL star running back LeSean McCoy says the whispers coming out of Cleveland point strongly in one direction: Watson is going to win the job.

"I got a lot of sources and connections over there," McCoy said, adding that people around the organization believe Watson "looks good," is "rolling right now," and "is going to start."

That is a striking statement because, on paper, Watson starting in 2026 still feels almost unthinkable.

The former Houston Texans star was a three-time Pro Bowler from 2018 through 2020 and built a reputation as one of the league's most dynamic dual-threat quarterbacks.

He led Houston to an 11–5 record in 2018, their best mark since 2012, and in 2020 delivered a peak season with 4,823 passing yards, 33 touchdowns, 444 rushing yards, and a 70.2% completion rate while leading the NFL in passing yards.

Then everything unraveled.

His relationship with the Texans deteriorated, and in 2022, Cleveland made a blockbuster move, trading significant draft capital and handing him a fully guaranteed five-year, $230 million contract that reshaped the modern quarterback market.

The decision also sparked major backlash due to sexual misconduct allegations and an NFL suspension that followed.

Since arriving in Cleveland, the return on the field has been uneven at best.

Watson has been limited by suspension, injuries, and inconsistency, including major Achilles setbacks that have stalled his momentum and kept him from sustaining any rhythm.

In total, he has appeared in just 19 games for the Browns across four seasons, and the explosive version that once defined Houston has largely remained out of reach.

That’s exactly why many believed it could be Shedeur Sanders’ job to lose.

Sanders' rookie season didn’t produce instant superstardom, but it produced intrigue.

After his dramatic draft slide, Sanders appeared in eight games and made seven starts, finishing with 1,400 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and 10 interceptions while completing about 56.6% of his passes.

His production included both standout moments, like a 364-yard, four-touchdown breakout performance, and costly turnovers that highlighted his adjustment to NFL speed and decision-making demands.

However, Sanders showed resilience in an unstable Browns offense, eventually earning Pro Bowl recognition as an alternate.

By season's end, he had done enough to stay firmly in Cleveland's 2026 quarterback competition, but not enough to claim the job outright.

Now, if McCoy’s sourcing is accurate, the Browns may already be set on going in another direction and turning to the veteran arm in Watson.
