Jacob Misiorowski Pitching In A Way Nobody Ever Has

There aren't many pitchers regularly hitting 100 mph. There's only one starting pitcher who does it.

So far in 2026, 382 pitches have reached triple digits by a starting pitcher. Of those, 61% of them (233) came from the right arm of Jacob Misiorowski.

According to MLB.com, "The Miz" has thrown the eight started pitches ever tracked (since 2008). His final pitch in the first inning against Aaron Judge and the Yankees on May 8, hit 103.6 – the fastest during this era.

In plan talk, Misiorowski is likely the hardest-throwing starting pitcher in MLB history. His average fastball speed of 99.6 ranks No. 1.

This season, Pirates rookie Bubba Chandler ranks No. 2 in average speed at 98.5, but his 5.14 ERA with 36 strikeouts and a league-leading 31 walks in 42 innings suggest more of a chuck-and-duck mentality.

More From Lindy's Sports:

The Miz, in 51 innings, has a 2.12 ERA, only 17 walks and 80 strikeouts. He's slicing batters up.

How Hard Jacob Misiorowski Actually Throws

The Mix generates a level of consistent speed that hasn't been seen. It doesn't hurt that he's 6-foot-7 and a gangly 200 pounds. He absolutely slings it.

His extension ranks at the 100th percentile according to MLB Statcast data. His length and stride knock two feet off the pitch travel, making it even trickier for hitters to pick it up in time. That makes his fastballs with a perceived velocity of 105.5.

The Next Nolan Ryan?

Nolan Ryan has long been the benchmark for flamethrowing starting pitchers. He allegedly throw a pitch 108 mph, but it's been under dispute for decades due to a lack of reliable technology.

But his legendary fastball likely hit around 99 mph at its max. He threw it for over 20 years, which is a mark that may never be replicated. But in terms of hardest-throwing, consider that in April against the Pirates, Misiorowski had a game with 21 pitchers at 102 mph or higher.

Ryan remains the historical gold standard for longevity at that velocity. No starter has ever thrown a fastball like Jacob Misiorowski is right now.
