TMZ Called Out For Story About Taylor Swift, Travis Kelce Prenup
With Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift set to get married this summer, TMZ is suggesting that a prenup is on the horizon.
TMZ believes Kelce and Swift "need a prenup" since there's a ton of money at stake, especially when it comes to the 14-time Grammy Award Winner. That being said, TMZ is speculating about where they could go to draft a prenup.
"Taylor and Travis check all the boxes for a couple that needs a prenup ... there is so much money on the line, plus they are both active money earners. Taylor is worth an estimated $2 billion and Travis comes in at $90 million," TMZ reported. "Picking a state where the prenup is drafted will be just as important as picking out a wedding venue. The laws governing prenups vary from state to state, and these prenups typically say the law of the state where it's written will apply, regardless of where they end up living. Taylor and Travis have options ... ties to at least 6 states by our count ... though our sources say it won't be drafted in California. That leaves Rhode Island, Missouri, Kansas, Tennessee and New York."
Fans of Kelce and Swift didn't appreciate TMZ's commentary this Tuesday, that's for sure.
"What's hers going into the marriage remains hers," one fan said. "What's his going into the marriage remains his, after M what they buy together are joint assets, her music rights are hers. His sports contracts are his. There's no need for a prenup. They are both independently wealthy."
"You write an entire article on an idea that a rich couple might get a prenup? Wild. Slow news day?" a second fan replied.
"It just shows how even the biggest celebrity relationships get reduced to headlines about contracts instead of the actual relationship," a third fan wrote.
What's the latest on the wedding?
The Cut previously reported that Kelce and Swift will get married in early July.
"While a New York City wedding for a woman who's constantly swarmed by hordes of fans may sound like a logistical nightmare to you and me, it actually might make sense for Swift and Kelce," Julia Reinstein wrote. "Apparently, they found the spot they were looking for in New York and planned the big day for the weekend of July 4, Swift's favorite holiday for throwing a big star-studded party."
According to TMZ, Swift is personally calling her celebrity friends to let them know about the wedding.
"Sources with direct knowledge tell us it's not like Taylor's mailing out save the dates … she's picking up the phone and calling guests herself," the report from TMZ states. "Our sources say the direct outreach is all about keeping the ceremony tightly under wraps and avoiding any potential leaks before the big day."
As of this week, Kelce and Swift have remained quiet about the exact date for their wedding ceremony.
