Spring State Playoffs: Clark County baseball teams to head east for regionals
May 17-Punching a ticket to the state playoffs means a trip east for Clark County high school baseball teams.
Mountain View, Columbia River and Seton Catholic are all headed out of town for regionals. State seedings and four-team regional pods were announced by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association seeding committee on Sunday.
Fresh off winning the Class 3A district championship on Friday, Mountain View is headed to Kennewick. The No. 10 seed Thunder will face No. 7 O'Dea in the regional round on Saturday.
That game's winner advances to the quarterfinals to face the winner of No. 2 Kennewick vs. Enumclaw or Monroe, which play in the round of 20 on Tuesday.
No. 16 Kelso, which fell short in the district title game, hosts a round of 20 game Tuesday against No. 17 Eastside Catholic. The winner travels to face top seed Mount Vernon on Saturday.
After a 1-0 loss to Tumwater in the 2A district title game, Columbia River is headed to the Othello Regional on Saturday. The No. 6 seed Rapids will face No. 11 Selah with the winner facing No. 3 Othello or No. 14 Chief Sealth.
After a loss to 1A state top seed Montesano in the district title game, Seton Catholic is headed to the Colville Regional. The No. 5 seed Cougars face No. 12 Klahowya with the winner facing No. 4 Colville or No. 13 Rochester.
Softball
Both Skyview and Seton Catholic earned trips to Richland for the 4A and 1A state tournaments.
The defending 4A champion Storm are the No. 11 seed after surviving a loser-out game in a rain-shortened bi-district tournament. Skyview opens against No. 6 Kamiakin at 9 a.m. Friday.
As the No. 3 seed, Seton Catholic received one of four automatic quarterfinal berths in the 1A state tournament. That came after the Cougars placed third in the district tournament after a 3-0 semifinal loss to state top seed Montesano.
Seton Catholic opens play Friday against No. 6 Lynden Christian or No. 11 Columbia-White Salmon, who play an opening-round elimination game Thursday.
2A district champion Mark Morris is the No. 1 seed at the 2A state tournament in Selah. Ridgefield is the No. 7 seed and opens against No. 10 Selah.
3A district champ Kelso is the No. 11 seed at the state tournament in Lacey. The Lassies open against No. 6 Stanwood.
Boys Soccer
After reaching the bi-district semifinals, Skyview earned the No. 6 seed in the 4A state tournament. The Storm face No. 11 Lincoln-Seattle in the first round on Wednesday at Kiggins Bowl.
As the No. 5 seed, district champion Heritage avoided the opening round in the 20-team 3A state tournament. The Timberwolves head to a regional pod in Gig Harbor for a Friday match against No. 12 Mount Vernon. The winner plays Saturday against the winner of No. 4 Gig Harbor vs. North Thurston or Walla Walla.
The 3A district runner-up, Mountain View is seeded No. 18 and faces No. 15 Decatur on the road Wednesday.
Fresh off a district title, reigning 2A state champion Columbia River is the No. 3 seed. The Rapids host No. 14 Steilacoom on Wednesday.
District runner-up Hockinson is the No. 10 seed and faces a long trip to face No. 7 Pullman on Wednesday. No. 13 R.A. Long travels to No. 4 Fife.
After winning the district title, King's Way Christian gets to host a regional pod in the 1A state tournament. The No. 3 seed Knights will face Lynden Christian or University Prep in the round of 16 on Friday. The winner faces No. 6 Cedar Park Christian or No. 11 Cascade Christian on Saturday.
No. 8 seed Fort Vancouver is headed to the Leavenworth Regional. The Trappers face No. 9 Connell on Friday with the winner likely facing top seed Cascade on Saturday.
