Prep Highlights: Ridgefield tops Tumwater to advance to 2A state softball tournament

May 15-Casey Lehnertz went 3 for 3 with a double, two home runs and five RBI as the Ridgefield softball team clinched a berth to the 2A state tournament with a 15-11 win over Tumwater at the 2A district tournament in Chehalis.

The victory gave the Spudders third place in the tournament after beating Black Hills earlier Friday 14-0.

The Spudders scored five runs in the top of the fifth to take a 12-6 lead against Tumwater. Bailey Wolski went 2 for 5 with a triple and two RBI for Ridgefield, and Faith Smith was 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

Gracie Olmos had a big day at the plate for Ridgefield, going 5 for 10 with two doubles and five RBI in the two victories.

Madeline Bruguier threw a shutout in the win over Black Hills and pitched two innings of solid relief against Tumwater.

MARK MORRIS 11, W.F. WEST 0 - The Monarchs captured the District 4 championship behind a two-hit shutout from Makenzie Henthorn.

Henthorn struck out 17 and didn't walk a batter in the win.

Taylor Lee went 4 for 4 with double, triple and two RBI. Shailia Wild was 3 for 4 with three doubles and three RBI. Paisley Fraidenburg and Grace Woodbridge each hit home runs for the Monarchs.

SKYVIEW 5, EMERALD RIDGE 0 - Malea Figueroa throw a two-hit shutout while striking eight as the Storm opened the 4A bi-district tournament in Kent with a win.

Taylor Lies went 3 for 4 with a double and a triple, Sadie Vigil went 3 for 3 and Audrey Jackson hit a home run for Skyview.

The bulk of Friday's schedule was postponed because of rain. Skyview will face Rogers of Puyallup in a quarterfinal game Saturday, which was moved to all-weather fields at Thomas Jefferson High School.

Camas and Union did not play at all on Friday. Their first-round games were moved to Saturday morning at Auburn Mountainview High School.

1A DISTRICT TOURNAMENT - Seton Catholic advanced to the semifinals of the 1A District 1-4 tournament in Centralia with an 11-1 win over Columbia-White Salmon on Friday.

The Cougars will face Montesano at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fort Borst Park in Centralia.

Jocelyn Kender struck out 10 batters for Seton and Kingley Williams went 3 for 3.

Columbia-White Salmon, which opened the tournament with a 20-6 win over La Center, will face King's Way Christian in a loser-out game at 9 a.m. Saturday.

King's Way Christian opened with a 13-10 loss to Blaine.

La Center and Kalama had their seasons come to an end with a pair of losses on Friday.

Baseball

CASTLE ROCK 2, LA CENTER 1 - The Rockets scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to clinch a state berth in a loser-out game at the 1A District 4 tournament.

La Center took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh and 6-plus shutout innings from Gunnar Schockelt.

Tristan Honey and Brady Hamer got the rally started for the Rockets with a pair of one-out singles in the bottom of the seventh.

After a fielder's choice, the Rockets loaded the bases on a walk to Stuart Teter.

Honey then scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. After another walk reloaded the bases, Noxx Wilcox was hit by a pitch to win the game.

Wilcox pitched all seven innings for Castle Rock, striking out seven.

ROCHESTER 5, KING'S WAY CHRISTIAN 1 - Rochester scored four runs in the top of the seventh to rally past King's Way Christian and end the Knights' season in a 1A District 4 winner-to-state game.
