Golden Knights lose draft pick, coach John Tortorella fined $100K for violating NHL media regulations

LAS VEGAS - The NHL has handed down a massive punishment as a result of the Vegas Golden Knights' brief media availability following Thursday's Game 6 in Anaheim.

The Knights must forfeit a second-round pick in this year's NHL draft, and coach John Tortorella has been fined $100,000 for not speaking to the media postgame at Honda Center following the Knights' 5-1 win over the Ducks.

The ruling comes after "previous warnings were issued" to the Knights, according to the league, regarding "compliance with the Media Regulations and other associated policies."

The Knights will have an opportunity to appeal to commissioner Gary Bettman. That in-person meeting would take place in New York next week.

The Knights issued a statement saying they will not make further comment.
