Prairie football coach Junior Miller resigns after 2 seasons

May 12-Prairie High School head football coach Junior Miller has resigned from his position after two seasons, he announced on social media Tuesday.

Miller, a 2002 graduate of Prairie, cited a recent professional career change as the reason for stepping away, adding, "I, physically and mentally, cannot give the program the time and dedication it deserves."

Prairie athletic director Everett Klodt said Tuesday that offensive coordinator James Young-Lewis will serve as acting head coach through the summer. Spring football practices begin June 1.

"Our goal was to have little impact on the kids and program as we head into summer season and team camp," Klodt said in an email, "and (Young-Lewis) is the best fit at this time. He has the energy, eagerness to make some changes, and kids love playing for him."

Last fall, the Falcons went 6-4, finished third in the 3A Greater St. Helens League and reached the 3A state preliminary round. It marked the program's first postseason appearance since winning the 3A GSHL title in 2019 and reaching the 3A state tournament.

"Although I am stepping away from this position, Prairie will always be home to me," Miller said. "I will always support this program and cheer for the young men who continue to wear this Falcon jersey with pride."
