Athletics Place Star Infielder on IL Amid Flurry of Roster Moves
At 21-19, the Athletics have been a pleasant surprise so far this year and currently sit atop the AL West division. On Tuesday, the team called up a couple of promising prospects after placing their shortstop on the IL.
Shortstop Jacob Wilson was removed from Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles after injuring his left shoulder on a diving defensive play. The Athletics are calling it a left shoulder subluxation, and Wilson does not have a timetable to return. Wilson has been enjoying a productive campaign so far, slashing .292/.311/.398, with three home runs, 19 RBI, and a pair of stolen bases.

On Monday, at an Athletics team event, Wilson was seen with his left arm in a sling. The Athletics want Wilson to strengthen and stabilize the shoulder before returning to baseball activities.
In a corresponding move, the Athletics recalled infielder Michael Stefanic and officially selected the contract of promising prospect Henry Bolte from Triple-A. Stefanic figures to be a part of a committee that fills in for Wilson at shortstop, led by his backup, Darell Hernaiz. Stefanic is a natural second baseman, but suited up in 27 games for Triple-A Buffalo last season as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays organization.
Bolte is the more exciting call-up for fans around MLB. The 22-year-old is batting .348 at Triple-A Las Vegas, with an OPS of 1.076. Bolte has 12 home runs and 17 stolen bases in just 37 games this season. To make room for Bolte in the outfield, the Athletics optioned infielder Michael Harris and designated RHP Eduarniel Nunez for assignment.
Stefanic has spent most of his career in the Los Angeles Angels' system, appearing in just 99 major league games across four seasons. At 30 years of age, Stefanic is a solid defender but has mustered just a .580 OPS with no home runs in 289 major league plate appearances.
