Bill Belichick's Football Team Accused Of 'Tarnishing' UNC's Reputation

Bill Belichick and the North Carolina football team seem to be having a hectic offseason to say the least.

Pat Welter, Randall Kerr and Brian Murphy of WRAL News published an in-depth article this week about North Carolina's football team and how multiple players have been cited for speeding this offseason. There have already been two reckless driving charges since January.

Longtime North Carolina professor Mark Peifer recently expressed his concerns with the football team's behavior. He claims their antics could "tarnish" the school's reputation.

"Is there no one who can rein in these players, probably only a subset of the football team, who are tarnishing the reputation of our school and of all Carolina athletes?" Peifer wrote in an email to North Carolina athletics director Bubba Cunningham.

According to WRAL News, Cunningham sent back this response to Peifer: "I don't know how many more times I can apologize. Disappointing to say the least."

What does Belichick have to say about this?

As of this moment, Belichick hasn't responded to recent concerns about the football team's driving issues. In November, however, he released a statement about this topic.

"Our conduct outside of the building, outside of the program, is important to us, and we stress that," Belichick told WRAL. "We've addressed multiple things, not just that. There are other things that go on, besides driving, that we've talked about absolutely."

We'll see if Belichick issues a new statement on this matter, especially since he was called out by Pro Football Talk this afternoon.

"Behavior won't change without consequences," Mike Florio wrote. "And while Belichick has a well-earned reputation when it comes to imposing consequences for behaviors that directly impact the goal of winning games, the fact that this specific problem persists shows that Belichick can't, or won't, demand compliance."
