Bryson DeChambeau Shares Worrying Update Before PGA Championship

Coming off an opening-round 69 at LIV Golf Virginia, Bryson DeChambeau showed hints of a competitive weekend ahead. But while the scorecard looked promising, the two-time Major winner revealed that his body is still giving him issues at a crucial point in the season.

Currently tied for 11th position, DeChambeau's three-under-par round has put him in possible contention to win the LIV event at the Championship Golf Course. However, for the 32-year-old, the stakes will only increase next week when he competes at the PGA Championship.

Following his first round on Thursday, DeChambeau was asked for an update about his injury. The golfer had missed LIV Golf Mexico City due to a wrist injury. Despite his return to the field, the concerns still existed. "It's struggling a bit unfortunately. The wrist is feeling better", DeChambeau said.

He added, "I've had some shoulder stuff since, shoot, the Ryder Cup. I don't know what happened. It's been trained. It's been treated. We've worked on it. We've done a bunch of stuff, MRIs. It's all been fine. It's been eking at me for quite a while". The concerning part for DeChambeau is that the discomfort has lingered even during his recent LIV Golf victories in Singapore and South Africa.

Throughout the round, the 32-year-old was visibly adjusting his arm movement. He later confirmed it was an effort to protect the injured area. The timing of the issue can be concerning, with nearly a week left before the second major of the year. DeChambeau stressed how important course conditions are heading into a major, especially while transitioning from regular tournament setups to faster greens.

"It's one of the most important things", he said. "If you're going from a golf course that's a little slower to super fast greens, it can be a little diabolical to figure it out". After competing for $4 million at LIV Golf Virginia, DeChambeau will head to Aronimink Golf Club in Newton Square for the PGA Championship.

However, signs of injury are lingering around the world's 29th-ranked golfer. DeChambeau has finished runner-up in the last two editions of the major. Instead of completing a hat trick of heartbreak, he will hope to lift his maiden Wanamaker Trophy this year.
