Aaron Rodgers, Steelers Making Progress Heading Into Weekend
The Aaron Rodgers saga could finally reach a conclusion this weekend.
When free agency first started in March, most fans expected the Pittsburgh Steelers to get a deal done with Rodgers. It was then reported that a decision would be made by the start of the NFL Draft. Once that deadline came and went, the Steelers placed the UFA tender on the future Hall of Famer. That decision opened the door for another team to enter the sweepstakes.
The Arizona Cardinals were recently mentioned as an option for Rodgers. One of the team's wide receivers, Kendrick Bourne, openly recruited him on social media.
Josh Weinfuss of ESPN, however, reported that all the buzz surrounding Rodgers and the Cardinals isn't "real."
So what's the latest on Rodgers? It sounds like a return to the Steel City is likely.
According to Adam Crowley and Dorin Dickerson, the Steelers are expected to sign Rodgers this weekend. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport said a deal isn't in place just yet, but the four-time MVP has planned a visit with Pittsburgh.
Does Mike McCarthy want to reunite with Aaron Rodgers?
Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk recently reported that Steelers coach Mike McCarthy prefers to move on from Rodgers. They won a Super Bowl together on the Green Bay Packers, but their run ended on a sour note.
"I continue to believe, truth be told, new coach Mike McCarthy would prefer to move on without his former Packers quarterback," Florio said.
Rodgers had a respectable 2025 season with the Steelers, completing 66.5% of his passes for 3,327 yards with 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
