Knicks Fans Spark Outrage After Assault of Sixers Fan After Playoff Win

New York Knicks fans have been waiting a quarter-century to make it back to the NBA Finals, but it might be the new era fans of the team that are getting the most attention these days.

And not for a good reason.

Since the Knicks returned to relevance for the first time, Jeremy Lin and Carmelo Anthony were playing at Madison Square Garden, fans have flocked to the streets following Knicks playoff games, with social media sites capturing the live reactions of exuberant supporters.

While at first the fans were praised for their earnest fandom, as years have gone by, those spontaneous outbursts have begun to be criticized as teenagers playing to the camera for their five minutes of fame.

And on Monday, things got out of hand once again with Knicks fans, as cameras caught a lone Philadelphia 76ers fan leaving MSG following his team’s loss in the opening game of the Eastern Conference semifinal series.

The 76ers supporter was jeered by Knicks fans, as you’d expect, but the scene turned violent when a group tried to rip his Philadelphia jersey off from behind in a callous assault.

Although the fan was able to push away the aggressors, the video uploaded has sparked heavy criticism from Knicks fans, new and old, for how the scene has devolved outside the arena following games.

The Sixers look to tie up the series tonight at MSG before returning home to Philadelphia for Game 3 on Friday.

Hopefully, with everyone’s jerseys, player or fan, intact.
