Jameis Winston Makes Major Career Move Away from the NFL

Jameis Winston has long been one of the NFL‘s most naturally entertaining personalities.

The former No. 1 overall pick spent years building a reputation for unpredictable interviews, motivational one-liners, and viral locker-room moments, but his broadcasting profile exploded during Super Bowl LIX week in New Orleans.

FOX Sports used Winston as a digital correspondent, sending him through the French Quarter to interview players, fans, and celebrities while showcasing the city's culture and energy.

The experiment became a massive hit. FOX's digital content featuring Winston generated enormous engagement, with several clips going viral across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, and Twitter.

Since then, Winston has continued appearing across FOX programming, including guest spots on "FOX NFL Kickoff" and "FOX NFL Sunday," where his larger-than-life personality has continuously earned strong fan reactions.

FOX executives quickly realized Winston offers a sort of authentic charisma that translates across both television and social media.

Now FOX is doubling down.

On Wednesday, it was reported that Winston will return to FOX Sports as a correspondent for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the largest World Cup in history and arguably the biggest sports event ever hosted in North America.

This is a massive win for FOX because the 2026 FIFA World Cup is expected to be a monster.

For the first time ever, the tournament expands to 48 nations and 104 matches across the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

The event runs from June 11 through July 19 and is expected to shatter attendance, streaming, advertising, and television records.

FOX alone plans to air 70 matches on broadcast television and 34 more on FS1, while all matches will also stream through FOX One.

As a correspondent, Winston will likely operate in a hybrid entertainment role, appearing across digital segments, fan events, social media activations, live interviews, and feature content surrounding the tournament.

FIFA already expects record-breaking revenue, attendance, and viewership, with ticket demand reportedly surpassing 500 million requests.

Broadcasters like FOX Sports are treating the tournament like a once-in-a-generation media event as soccer attempts to cement itself deeper into the North American mainstream.

And with Winston joining the coverage team, FOX appears poised to lean even further into his charismatic personality and deliver content that is sure to go viral.
