Girls Golf: Alyssa Rigby of Mountain View wins 3A district title by 40 shots

May 5-LONGVIEW - Alyssa Rigby of Mountain View looked every bit the champion on Tuesday at the 3A District 4 girls golf tournament, right down to her 2026 Masters cap.

"Yeah, my brother got it for me," the sophomore said.

Alex Rigby is a sophomore golfer at Oklahoma Christian University. Former OCU golfer Mateo Pulcini played in the Masters last month.

And that connection got Alyssa Rigby a new lid for the district tournament, plus she also received a ball marker from the clubhouse at Augusta National.

"These are pretty hard to come by," Alyssa Rigby said. "It's pretty cool."

Also hard to come by this week was some competition for Rigby, who shot a 1-over-par 143 for 36 holes to win the district title by a whopping 40 strokes.

Without being really tested by other golfers, Rigby just tried to enjoy the experience.

"Overall, it was fun," Rigby said. "I got to play with some friends that I really enjoy playing with and don't get to see that often. ... The course was just fun. It's always been fun for me to play high school golf."

Rigby plays golf year-round and spends a good part of her winters in Arizona so she can work on her game and play in high-level events.

But spring brings a more relaxed atmosphere of high school golf, although the course at Mint Valley brought some twists.

"This course is pretty tough," Rigby said. "The tee boxes are really tight. I haven't played this course in quite a while, so it was kind of a surprise to see how they set it up. And the conditions were a lot firmer than I anticipated."

After shooting a 1-under-par 70 on Monday that included a bogey on No. 18, Rigby opened with two bogeys in the first three holes on Tuesday.

But she regrouped to shoot par the rest of the way, although there were a couple of mishaps.

On the par-four No. 13 hole, her tee shot clipped a tree branch near the tee box, leaving her in the trees on the right of the fairway.

Her long approach shot dropped right on the green before bouncing into a greenside bunker. But she bunker shot left her a couple of feet from the hole and she sank her putt for another par.

"Yeah, you get four shots to make par," Rigby said. "And sometimes those four shots don't go as you planned, but it's all about how you finish."

Rigby finished on top at district for a second year in a row. But this year comes with a twist.

At 3A, District 4 golfers qualify directly to state - no bi-district play needed. The 3A state tournament this year is May 19-20 at Deer Park Golf Club near Spokane.

"I've got a few weeks to lead up that," Rigby said. "I've got some tournaments before that and just getting some good practice in."

Prairie took the team title, led by a district runner-up Lucia Hill. Karsyn Hall of Kelso was third.

Both Prairie and Kelso advanced to state as teams, and Heritage's Lillia Hryshyna and Mountain View's Kaela Blanchard earned individual state berths.
