Prep Highlights: Columbia River clinches a share of 2A GSHL title in baseball with win over Hockinson
May 4-Zach Sims went 2 for 3 with three runs and two RBI as the Columbia River baseball team clinched a share of the 2A Greater St. Helens League title with a 12-2 win over Hockinson on Monday.
River's win coupled with Ridgefield's loss to Mark Morris on Monday moved the Rapids (14-5, 10-3 2A GSHL) one game ahead of the Spudders with one game left to play.
River swept the season series from Ridgefield, so the Rapids are assured of the No. 1 seed to the district playoffs.
River can clinch the league title outright with a win Wednesday over Hockinson.
Skyview tennis wins 4A GSHL
The Skyview tennis team lost on Monday, but still claimed the 4A Greater St. Helens League title.
Union earned the win over the Storm 3-3 (7-6 tiebreaker on sets), but Skyview finished the season with a 7-2 mark, ahead of Camas 6-3 and Union 5-4.
Stars of the day
Deker Bartell, Mark Morris baseball, went 2 for 4 with a double and threw a scoreless inning of relief in an 8-6 win over Ridgefield, keeping the Monarchs' hopes of claiming the No. 2 seed to the district playoffs alive.
Riley Young, R.A. Long baseball, went 2 for 4 with a home run and three RBI and allowed no earned runs over five innings pitched in a 6-2 win over Hudson's Bay.
Tanner Carlsen, Skyview baseball, struck out 11 and allowed one earned run over six innings pitched in a 8-1 win over Prairie.
Paisley Fraidenburg, Mark Morris softball, went 3 for 4 with two runs, two doubles and three RBI in a 14-0 win over R.A. Long as the Monarchs clinched the 2A Greater St. Helens League title.
Emily Hull, Columbia River softball, went 4 for 4 with four runs, two doubles, a triple and RBI in a 17-1 win over Washougal.
Tava Whitlow, Ridgefield softball, went 3 for 3 with four runs, a double, triple and three RBI in a 20-0 win over Hudson's Bay.
Emma Barrow, Woodland softball, went 3 for 4 with three runs, a double, home run and three RBI in a 11-9 win over Hockinson.
Tynan Young-Boyle, Seton Catholic, had a goal and two assists in a 7-0 win over Toledo-Winlock that kept the Cougars' postseason hopes alive. Seton needs King's Way Christian to lose to Columbia-White Salmon on Tuesday to force a tiebreaker for the final district playoff spot.
