Dianna Russini Has Standing Job Offer After Leaving The Athletic
It remains to be seen when - or if - Dianna Russini will work in sports media again.
The now-former NFL insider for The Athletic publicly resigned from her position last month. The New York Post had published photos of Russini at an Arizona resort with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel. In the weeks that followed, more photos surfaced of their relationship, including a 2020 report that claimed witnesses saw them kissing.
Russini announced her resignation in a letter to The Athletic's editor-in-chief.
"Over a career spanning more than fifteen years in sports journalism - at NBC, ESPN, and The Athletic - I have built a body of work I am proud of. I have broken stories, earned the trust of sources across the league, and been guided by the highest standards of professional conduct. That record speaks for itself," she wrote in her official letter.
"I remain grateful to The Athletic and for the extraordinary colleagues with whom I have worked there, for the platform it provided, and for the support you showed me during this difficult time. I wish you nothing but continued success."
While it's unlikely that Russini will land at a place like ESPN or Fox Sports in the wake of her scandal, it's certainly possible that she'll work again.
In fact, she has a standing job offer.
Jon "Stugotz" Weiner, formerly of The Dan Le Batard Show, has made it clear that Russini has a place on his show, if she chooses to accept.
Russini's job offer is still standing
Weiner re-emphasized this week that Russini still has a job if she wants one.
"This is her story to share when she feels like sharing it," Weiner said. "It is not me. And it is not my obligation to talk to Dianna Russini privately on the phone and then share it with a radio audience that she doesn't want me to share it with, because it's not my story to tell. It's her story to tell on her timeline."
Weiner made it clear that Russini could land a full-time job with him if she chooses to.
"I did say if the Athletic fired her, I would hire her," he said. "They didn't fire her. She stepped down from The Athletic, and the offer holds forever."
"If Dianna Russini decides one day, three months from now, a year from now, two years from now, that she wants to get back into this game, she has a place right here," he added.
Weiner has made it clear that he'll continue to support her.
"I'm not a journalist, I'm a talk show host," he said. "And when my real friends fall on some difficult times, I like to support my friends and talk to them and be someone that listens.
"Not talks, listens. This is her story to share when she feels like sharing it. It is not me."
