Skier Collision Recorded On Mt. Washington, Multiple Injuries Reported
Each spring, East Coast skiers flock to Mt. Washington's Tuckerman Ravine for backcountry turns in one of the country's most iconic zones.
Known to live up to its "ice coast" nickname, Tuckerman is full of steep, technical lines that challenge expert skiers.
A video posted to the r/icecoast subreddit shows just how quickly things can go wrong for a skier falling in steep terrain. The video shows a skier falling down a line in Tuckerman called "The Chute", losing both skis, and subsequently smashing into a skier below him.
The Chute has a slope angle of around 50 degrees at the top, 40 degrees in the middle, and 30 degrees near the bottom, putting it at a similar steepness to a resort black diamond run.
Allegedly, the skier who was hit suffered a torn ACL and meniscus, but was able to limp his way down the mountain. There was no update concerning the skier who fell. Tap or click below to watch.

Comments remarked on how poor the conditions in the Chute were at the time the video was taken. Quite a few other skiers reportedly also fell on the line, possibly due to icy conditions.
Comments also pointed out that the skier below might not have been able to hear any warnings to get out of the way of the falling skier due to wind and/or a chorus of bystanders.
If anything, this clip is a reminder that avalanches are far from the only hazard in the backcountry. Busy ski slopes and poor communication can just as easily lead to accidents, and self-arresting is a great skill to have if you're planning to ski icy, steep, or exposed terrain.
Stay safe out there.
