Ravens Add Veteran QB Days After Signing Undrafted Rookie Diego Pavia
The path for Diego Pavia to make the Baltimore Ravens roster may have gotten more difficult just days after he signed his three-year deal with the team.
Lamar Jackson remains the clear starter, and Tyler Huntley is expected to hold the backup role given his experience in the system. That initially left Pavia and fellow undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano competing for a potential third spot on the depth chart or practice squad.
However, the Ravens added another layer to that competition on Monday by signing veteran quarterback Skylar Thompson.

Thompson most recently spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and previously saw action with the Miami Dolphins, where he notably started a playoff game during the 2022 season.
Now for Pavia, it will be critical to stand out during rookie minicamp, OTAs, and eventually training camp, especially with limited reps expected given the Baltimore Ravens currently have five quarterbacks on the roster.
Pavia was one of the more intriguing prospects in this draft class, largely due to his polarizing personality, which helped make him both a standout and a lightning rod at the collegiate level with Vanderbilt. That attention - paired with his production - led to a runner-up finish in Heisman Trophy voting last season.
That said, his measurables have raised concerns, as he projects as one of the smaller quarterbacks at the NFL level. Combined with his outspoken persona, that may not appeal to every organization, especially those seeking a lower-profile presence in a backup role early in a player's career.
