Anthony Edwards Pushing for Game 1 Return: Report
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards missed the last two games of his team’s first-round playoff series against the Denver Nuggets after suffering a left knee hyperextension and bone bruise in Game 4.
Initial reports indicated that Edwards would miss at least the first two games of the Timberwolves’ second-round playoff series against the San Antonio Spurs, but the All-Star guard was ultimately upgraded to questionable on Minnesota’s Game 1 injury report.
According to ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania, Edwards was a “significant participant” in the Timberwolves’ shootaround on Monday morning.
Edwards is pushing to play in Game 1, but the team’s medical staff will make its decision as tipoff approaches.
The Timberwolves have the odds stacked against them as they take on Victor Wembanyama the No. 2 seed San Antonio Spurs, especially if Edwards is unable to play. Minnesota is dealing with some additional injury issues, including as season-ending Achilles tear for Donte DiVincenzo that occurred in the same Game 4 victory.
Edwards is well known for his ability to play through pain and return from injury quicker than the average NBA player. In fact, the Timberwolves’ medical staff gave him the nickname “Wolverine” due to his quick healing ability.
On Sunday, Edwards posted a YouTube video title, “Don’t count me out.”
"It's the playoffs," he said in the video. "I'll go out on one leg if I have to."
Game 1 will tipoff at 9:30 p.m. ET from San Antonio’s Frost Bank Center.
