Kade Anderson's tantalizing start continues in Double-A | Mariners extra

Welcome to The Seattle Times' Sunday inside baseball page, where we review the week that was on the diamond, highlight key trends with the Mariners and present our weekly MLB Power Rankings.

Stat of the Week

127

In 20 games since April 10, the Mariners offense ranked No. 2 in MLB with a 127 wRC+ (Weighted Runs Created Plus, a metric that assesses total offensive production and is adjusted by ballpark, with 100 representing league average). In that stretch, through Friday, the M's averaged 5.0 runs per game, hitting .264 with 33 doubles, two triples, 27 home runs, 98 RBI, with a .349 on-base percentage and a .441 slugging percentage. They ranked fourth in batting average, second in OBP, fourth in OPS (.790) and fifth in slugging.

Ex-Mariner of the Week

"Ty France Is Suddenly the Padres' Most Important Hitter," read the headline for one San Diego fan blog, Padres Mission, on Friday. In April, France posted a .310/.356/.619 slash line (.975 OPS) in 42 at-bats, and he's been the Padres' regular first baseman the past couple weeks. An All-Star with the Mariners in 2022, France won his first Gold Glove in 2025, when he split time between Minnesota and Toronto.

Who's Hot

Julio Rodríguez has been the Mariners' most productive hitter over the past three weeks, hitting four homers and six doubles with a .333/.386/.556 slash line (.942 OPS) over 88 plate appearances since April 10. Julio's 168 wRC+ (100 is average) ranks 11th in the American League in that stretch.

Who's Not

Bryan Woo is working through the worst two-start stretch of his career, having allowed a combined 13 runs on 16 hits (and six home runs) over nine innings against St. Louis and Kansas City, with just three strikeouts. Woo hadn't allowed a home run in his first five starts this season. His season ERA has ballooned to 4.61.

Prospect Watch

It just continues for Kade Anderson, the Mariners' No. 1 prospect who threw 5 2/3 scoreless innings for Double-A Arkansas on Friday. Anderson allowed just four hits with no walks and eight strikeouts. In his first five professional starts, the 21-year-old left-hander has allowed only one run in 24 1/3 innings, sporting a 0.37 ERA with 13 hits allowed (no home runs) and a 38-to-4 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
