Major City Out of Super Bowl Rotation - NFL Says Stadium Falls Short
NFL teams don’t only compete to win the Super Bowl; they also compete to host it at their stadium.
Every year, one of the 32 franchises proposes a new stadium to gain leverage in an arms race with the other franchises in the sport.
In 2026, the Buffalo Bills will begin playing at their new home.
In 2027, the Tennessee Titans. In 2029, the Cleveland Browns. In 2030, the Washington Commanders. In 2031, the Kansas City Chiefs. Even the Jacksonville Jaguars, who aren’t building an entirely new venue, will be playing games in Orlando because they’re doing a major overhaul of their stadium in the next two years.
And a lot of it comes down to being a stadium that can host major events: WrestleMania, the Final Four, the College Football Playoff, and, of course, the Super Bowl.
One city left behind in the new stadium madness is Miami.

A host of 11 Super Bowls has been crossed off the normal rotation of hosting the big game, replaced by the likes of Los Angeles and Las Vegas, which have state-of-the-art stadiums.
"Miami is not really in line for one,” admitted Dolphins owner Stephen Ross. “It’s always exciting to have the Super Bowl, but that was before we had all the other events. Miami has by far the best weather. It's in their best interest to have one here, but at this point, they don't believe we meet all the requirements and the demands."
While Ross said he would be looking at the Jacksonville model and considering upgrades to their current home to bring back the NFL, it doesn’t seem as if a brand-new stadium is in the works.
Along with the slew of cities also debuting new stadiums and the NFL generally rewarding those ventures with a Super Bowl, it might be a long time before Miami hosts a championship game that isn’t the College Football Playoff.
