1 Dead, 1 Injured In Chairlift Maintenance Accident at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl
One person died and one was injured after an accident on a chairlift at Mt. Hood Ski Bowl , Oregon, on April 30, 2026.
According to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office, at around 9:30 a.m., a 911 call was made reporting that a lift maintenance basket had fallen from the upper-bowl chairlift with two employees inside. One of the two was unconscious following the fall, and a third person, who was not involved in the fall, started CPR on the scene.
Deputies, Hoodland Fire, Clackamas Fire, American Medical Response, Clackamas County SAR volunteers, Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office, and U.S. Forest Service law enforcement all responded to the scene.
Medics reached the patients around 10 a.m., at which time one of the two was conscious and breathing. The second person did not have a pulse and was pronounced dead at the scene, despite lifesaving efforts.
The other patient was transported via LifeFlight to a local hospital for treatment.

The accident is being investigated as a workplace death and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified. No additional information is available at this time, and the name of the deceased will be released after family members have been notified.
Mt. Hood Ski Bowl has been closed for skiing since February 2, 2026, following only 22 days of operations this season.
