Former Colorado QB Takes Subtle Shot at Deion Sanders After NFL Draft
Colorado quarterback Kaidon Salter didn't quite finish his college career on the high note he had hoped.
Because of his rocky 2025 season, Salter's draft stock took a pretty significant hit. He entered the 2026 draft with a chance to still be a late-round selection, but 10 QBs heard their named called during the three-day event - Fernando Mendoza, Ty Simpson, Carson Beck, Drew Allar, Cade Klubnik, Cole Payton, Taylen Green, Athan Kaliakmanis, Behren Morton, and Garrett Nussmeier - but Salter wasn't one of them.
However, his NFL dreams are still alive as he was invited to Tennessee Titans rookie camp not long after the draft.
Salter celebrated the invite on social media, and he promptly thanked his former coach - but it wasn't Deion Sanders.
"THANK YOU TO HUGH FREEZE LIBERTY AND FOR TAKING A CHANCE ON THE KID NONE OF THIS WOULD BE POSSIBLE WITHOUT YOU," Salter posted on X.
Salter, a former four-star QB and a top-50 national recruit in the class of 2021, played for Freeze at Liberty in 2021 and 2022 before Freeze left for the Auburn head-coaching job in 2023. He transferred to Liberty from Tennessee after having multiple run ins with the law.
Fans were quick to hit the comment section and rip into Salter for not thanking Sanders or Colorado for giving him an opportunity after leaving Liberty.
"Why not thank @CUBuffsFootball and @DeionSanders as well? Never be disrespectful or burn bridges. This is also wild because your brother is still playing for CU…I pray that things work out for you but this is not the way to open doors and blessings," one fan replied.
"So, umm… by that logic, shouldn’t you also be appreciative towards the Buffaloes for also taking a chance on you, even though it seems like it didn’t work?" another fan added.
"And here you go. #CU gave you a much bigger platform to get more eyes on you. You had your pro day at #CU and your brother is currently on the football team. 🤦🏿♂️," a third fan posted.
"lol.. u mad u came to CU and was [expletive].. lol.. that's your own fault.. you young bucks gna learn," one user scoffed.
"So no Colorado thank u post ???" remarked another user.
