Andy Reid, Chiefs Cut Running Back After 0 Games Played
Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs are heading into the 2026 season with a lot more talent after their 2026 NFL Draft. The Chiefs had a tough season in 2025, finishing No. 3 in the AFC West and missing the playoffs entirely. The record was Reid's worst in his 13-year tenure with the Chiefs.
It was also the only time the four-time Super Bowl winner (three with the Chiefs: 2020, 2023, 2024, and in 1997 as an assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers) has finished below .500 as Kansas City's head coach. The Chiefs hope to turn their fortunes around for the 2026 season. Of course, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, defensive tackle Chris Jones and tight end Travis Kelce will play a large part, but their draft picks from the 2026 NFL Draft will also have to contribute significantly.
Of course, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, defensive tackle Chris Jones and tight end Travis Kelce will play a large part, but their draft picks from the 2026 NFL Draft will also have to contribute significantly. The Chiefs first selected LSU Tigers cornerback Mansoor Delane at No. 6 overall and then picked Clemson Tigers defensive tackle Peter Woods at No. 29 with their second first-round pick. The complete list of Kansas City's draft picks on Days 2 and 3 is as follows:
Round 2: No. 40 overall - Oklahoma Sooners edge rusher Mason Thompson
Round 4: No. 109 overall - Oregon cornerback Jadon Canady
Round 5: No. 161 overall - Nebraska Cornhuskers running back Emmett Johnson
Round 5: No. 176 overall - Indiana Hoosiers wide receiver Cyrus Allen
Round 7: No. 149 overall - LSU Tigers quarterback Garrett Nussmeier
Although Kansas City did not draft a running back in the draft, it must feel satisfied with the depth chart, as it waived ShunDerrick Powell on Wednesday. Powell did not appear in any games for the Chiefs last season. The 5-foot-7 running back was signed as an undrafted free agent in 2025. He first played college football for the North Alabama Lions before transferring to the Central Arkansas Bears in 2023.

Kansas City made a big splash in free agency when they signed Kenneth Walker for the 2026 NFL season.
