Lindsey Vonn Shares Recovery Update Weeks After Olympic Injury

Lindsey Vonn’s Olympic comeback was cut short by a horrifying crash during her first downhill run at the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games. The 41-year-old skier, who’d torn her ACL just nine days earlier, was airlifted off the mountain after suffering a complex tibia fracture.

Vonn underwent multiple surgeries on her left leg, which she says doctors almost amputated after she suffered compartment syndrome.

Vonn still has a ways to go in her recovery process. Earlier this week, she was spotted rolling through the Los Angeles airport in a wheelchair.

That being said, it appears Vonn is attacking her rehab relentlessly. The three-time Olympic medalist posted a photo from the gym on Tuesday.

“Not quite me but getting there…. #stepbystep,” Vonn wrote.

“Standing when I’m allowed,” she added in a follow-up post. “Never miss my rehab…”

Vonn addressed her progress during a recent interview with People.

“It’s definitely been up and down,” she said of her mental health as she continues her rehab process. “I’d say in the last month, it’s definitely gotten better, but of course there were really low moments. I hate being dependent on people, and was pretty much 100% dependent for everything. It was quite a challenge, just being in the hospital alone for two and a half weeks. Being completely immobile for that extended time period was so rough.”

Vonn will serve as the commencement speaker for the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism on May 15.
