Bears Rookie Addresses Viral Non-Reaction to NFL Draft Moment
The Chicago Bears made multiple picks throughout the NFL Draft, including some surprising selections, and some college players expressed excitement about joining the NFC contenders.
They addressed a major defensive need in the first round, selecting Oregon safety Dillon Thien, then followed it up by getting Iowa center Logan Jones to help protect quarterback Caleb Williams. In the third round, they went with more offense, getting Stanford tight end Sam Roush and LSU wide receiver Zavion Thomas.
Their fourth-round pick brought them another defensive player: University of Texas cornerback Malik Muhammad. While fans may have been excited about another prospect who could potentially boost the Bears’ defense, Muhammad’s reaction didn’t seem that way when he appeared in a video capturing his big draft moment.

Several days ago, a video surfaced showing Muhammad with family and friends as everyone heard his name announced in the fourth round of this year’s draft.
In the video, everyone around him cheers excitedly after his name is called on television. However, Muhammad is looking down at his phone, then briefly looks up at the TV, but never smiles or shows any excitement about being drafted.
The video, which lasts over a minute, shows plenty of other people celebrating the moment, but Muhammad seems either confused, frustrated, or unfazed.
On Tuesday evening, Muhammad posted a message addressing the viral video on his X account and Instagram Story. He indicated that once he was drafted, it “was a dream come true” and he was “overwhelmed with excitement and emotion” at that moment.
“I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity and ready to continue my career at the highest level. I can’t wait to get to work and do everything I can to make the city of Chicago proud. Thank you to the Bears organization! #BearDown,” he wrote.
The 6-foot, 188-pound prospect comes in having recorded 30 tackles, four pass breakups, two interceptions, and a sack for the Texas Longhorns last season. He also has that 2023 college highlight in which he blocked an Oklahoma punt and scored a touchdown on the return, showing exactly what he’s capable of.
Many pre-draft projections from analysts and scouts suggested that Muhammad would go in the second or third round, but he fell to the Bears in the fourth. With that, he was a potential steal for Chicago.
Some individuals have suggested that Muhammad’s non-reaction to the moment was due to sliding to where he did in the NFL draft order. According to his recent statement, he’s excited to join the Bears and get to work, helping out in the secondary, and that’s what will matter most to teammates and Bears fans.
