Blue Jays Make Roster Move After Trey Yesavage Decision

The Toronto Blue Jays dropped their Monday series against the Boston Red Sox, losing 5-0 in a poor all-around performance.

The team now sits fourth in the American League East division with a 12-16 record, a sharp contrast to the success of its 2025 campaign that led to a World Series appearance. Injuries to several key players have played a major role in the slow start.

However, there is some positive news as, according to the Blue Jays X account, right-handed pitcher Yesevage is being reinstated from the 15-day injured list and will return to the starting lineup for Tuesday's game after missing the start of the season with a right shoulder impingement.

After a rough start to the season and a battered pitching rotation, the return of top pitching prospect Yesevage provides a significant boost to the staff. His presence allows left-handed pitcher Eric Lauer to shift from the starting rotation to the bullpen in a relief role.

Yesevage has already shown his impact, posting an impressive 3.21 ERA, 1.429 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts over 14 innings in three games last season.

Standing 6-foot-4, he uses a high arm angle to generate a 93-96 mph fastball with a strong rising action. His 82-85 mph splitter serves as a primary strikeout pitch, while an upper-80s slider adds another layer to his arsenal. His high release point creates deception, making him difficult for hitters to track.

Beyond his raw stuff, he has demonstrated poise and command well beyond his experience level, limiting walks and consistently working ahead in counts.

Yesevage has quickly developed into one of the league's most promising young pitchers. The Toronto Blue Jays selected him in the first round, 20th overall, of the 2024 MLB Draft out of East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. He advanced rapidly through the minor leagues, demonstrating strong command and control, and became a key contributor during the club's 2025 postseason run.

He made a historic MLB debut against the Tampa Bay Rays, striking out nine batters over five innings to set a franchise record for a debut performance. The right-hander allowed just one run on three hits, showcasing his dominant fastball-splitter combination.

Yesevage signed with Toronto for a $4.175 million bonus and remains under team control through 2030. He is set to earn a $820,000 salary in 2026 after making approximately $57,204 as a late-season call-up in 2025, reinforcing his long-term value to the organization.
