‘Likely' NCAA Punishment for Quarterback Brendan Sorsby Emerges
Brendan Sorsby, one of the most sought-after quarterbacks on the transfer market this offseason, landed at Texas Tech after the Red Raiders allegedly quadrupled his NIL income.
Not long later, the NCAA announced its investigation the quarterback’s gambling history as he placed “a total value of less than seven figures but not insignificant,” of monetary wages on various sports. Sorsby gambled on everything from Major League Baseball to the National Basketball Association and the National Football League.
However, perhaps his most ill-advised bets came on his own college football team four years ago.

Sorsby made a handful of bets on Indiana during his freshman season there in 2022 where he attempted six passes in a single game played. Given the NCAA’s strict rules around gambling, Yahoo Sports insider Ross Dellenger believes the talented quarterback will never play in college football again.
“After the enforcement staff concludes its investigation, the NCAA is likely to recommend that Sorsby, having bet on his own team, be deemed ineligible. In normal protocol, the school - in this case, Texas Tech - would rule Sorsby ineligible for his final season of eligibility in 2026 (what was supposed to be his first in Lubbock),” Dellenger wrote.
The insider revealed Texas Tech will likely file for reinstatement of Sorbsy’s eligibility, which will spark a legal battle from there.
If he doesn’t regain eligibility, he could enter the NFL supplemental draft in June.
