Emmanuel Acho Calls Out Paige Bueckers Over Her Relationship Comments
Dallas Wings star Paige Bueckers recently had to (once again) turn down questions about her personal relationship with teammate Azzi Fudd. But while Fox Sports' Emmanuel Acho is willing to give Bueckers her privacy, he also believes that she needs to accept certain realities.
Speaking to the media yesterday, Bueckers reiterated that their relationship is "nobody's business but our own." But she acknowledged that there were legitimate questions about the basketball aspect of it.
"Quite frankly, I believe me and Azzi's personal relationship is nobody's business but our own. And what we choose to share is completely up to us. But I understand that as media members, you guys have a job to do, and you guys have to ask questions about the basketball aspect of it. So that's what I will be addressing today," Bueckers said.
Acho Speaks Out
That response didn't sit well with Acho though. On his Speakeasy podcast, Acho argued that being a star and involved in something unique that people may not understand is something people are always going to be curious about.
"She's right in that your personal life isn't necessarily our information in any way, shape, or form. However, where I do believe to some degree you missed the mark is one, if you're a star and if you're a star that is involved in anything unique you're going to get asked about that a lot," Acho said.
Acho likened Bueckers situation to cases like Tim Tebow being outspoken in his faith, Colin Kaepernick being outspoken on social justice issues and LeBron James playing with his son on the Lakers as things that go beyond just the game being played. He said that Bueckers should at least stop trying to divert legitimate questions since it only makes people more curious.
"Paige Bueckers, you're a star. You're a star and you're involved in something that is unique. You're playing with your partner, number one overall pick, she's a number one overall pick, so just don't gaslight the media as if the media is tripping for diving in to investigating something that is unique and something that needs to be asked about."
