NBA Offseason 2026: Teams That Could Create Fantasy Chaos With One Move Suggested
Summer checklists are being tabulated, and fantasy chaos is on the horizon for a few NBA teams gearing up for an active offseason.
It isn't uncommon for rosters to be shuffled. But a handful of clubs are just one move away from dramatically changing fantasy values for the 2026-27 season. One trade or free agency signing could impact playing minutes and shift roles, which could have big implications for your fantasy roster.
Which teams and players could throw your 2026-27 fantasy prep into anarchy? Here are the culprits, and who the fantasy winners and losers could be.
Teams One Move Away from Fantasy Chaos
High-Volatility Franchises, Trigger Moves, and Fantasy Winners & Losers
The Move: It appears likely the Nets will extend Michael Porter Jr. He led the rebuilding squad with 24.2 points and 7.1 rebounds per game last season, and has expressed a desire to stay. However, Brooklyn could also choose to trade the 27-year-old while his stock is high. They could get a fresh crop of young players in exchange, or use Porter in a package deal for a big player like Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Winners & Losers: Brooklyn has a bevy of young prospects looking to move up the ladder. One of the biggest beneficiaries would be Noah Clowney, who had a breakout season in 2025-26 and filled in for Porter on more than one occasion. Clowney's usage would go up, adding to his fantasy value.
The fantasy loser, if this scenario plays out, would be Porter. His fantasy value is tied to his high usage as an anchor in the Nets' current rebuild. A move would make his role unclear, and his playing time would likely decrease if he went to a contending team.
The Move: The Pelicans have set themselves up for a wild offseason. They finished the 2025-26 regular season 26-56 and don't own any first-round picks in the 2026 NBA Draft. New Orleans' brass has sworn up and down that Zion Williamson and Trey Murphy III are the foundation of the team and will stay put. But that hasn't stopped trade rumors surrounding Murphy, who has developed into a quality 3-and-D asset. Would the Pelicans actually part with him for draft picks?
Winners & Losers: It's honestly unclear if the Pelicans would be winners or losers if they parted with Murphy. Sure, they could get a big return for him. But would it be worth losing his steady minutes, three-point production, and defensive output? That's a lot of "what-ifs" for one trade.
As for Murphy? It would all depend on the destination. A move to a less dysfunctional team could be good for his fantasy value. Then again, it could also cut into his minutes and make him a less reliable asset.
The Move: It's a little bit harder to determine offseason moves for teams that are in the playoffs. But boy, does an early postseason exit (heck, even one bad game) get the rumor mill going. Such is the case for the Rockets, whose exciting young core narrowly escaped a first-round sweep by the Los Angeles Lakers. An early exit in Houston could mean the Rockets look to trade Kevin Durant. Rumors have already swirled, however, that the Rockets could shop rising center Alperen Sengun for a superstar return instead.
Winners & Losers: Sengun is a fantasy winner either way. The Rockets' frontcourt has gotten a bit crowded, and he could be a well-rounded asset on another team. The move could also benefit Rockets teammate Amen Thompson, who is impacted by Sengun's difficulty with spacing. He could see an uptick in usage when the towering center is sidelined.
Then again, the Rockets as a whole could end up at a disadvantage since Sengun is a piece of the team's emerging chemistry. Even getting a superstar in return to play alongside Durant could throw every starter's projected fantasy usage into the blender.
The Move: There's a lot that can happen here. The long and short of it is that an injury-plagued season aided in Golden State's exit in the play-in tournament. They desperately need to strengthen their bench so they aren't left exposed like 2025-26. Then again, they also want star power to help support Steph Curry, which is why they have been linked to trade rumors regarding big fish Antetokounmpo and Kawhi Leonard. But that would also mean shedding salary and parting ways with playmakers. And that would mean Draymond Green.
Winners & Losers: Even Warriors fans who get tired of Green's antics know the team has better defense when he's on the court. And fantasy managers in category leagues know he's a good asset for assists. So if Green leaves Golden State, the biggest fantasy loser could be Curry.
It's unclear who would be a fantasy winner and fill that void if Green were on the move. Kristaps Porzingis could also be on the move, and Al Horford has hinted at retiring. Would Gui Santos fill that role? Green has big shoes to fill, both on the court and in fantasy leagues.
The Move: You already know it's Giannis. Still, even after an injury-plagued season on an underwhelming team, an Antetokounmpo trade could really cause some fantasy hysteria for both the Bucks and whatever team he lands on.
Winners & Losers: The clear winner here would be Antetokounmpo. He's still a fantasy asset when it comes to scoring, rebounds, and assists. Even with his turnover rate and injury issues, his stock should go up if he's traded to a contending team that can maximize his strengths.
A Buck who could get a fantasy boost is Bobby Portis, although he doesn't possess the same two-way playmaking ability that a healthy Giannis does. Kyle Kuzma would certainly play more minutes if this trade happens, but his inconsistent scoring keeps his fantasy value modest. In short, fantasy winners remaining in Milwaukee is difficult to foresee.
