Nikola Jokic, Jaden McDaniels Bracing for NBA Punishment After Game 4 Scuffle
The Minnesota Timberwolves took firm control of their first-round series against the Denver Nuggets on Saturday night.
They also lit a fuse that's now threatening to explode ahead of a pivotal Game 5.
In a 112–96 Game 4 win, Minnesota pushed Denver to the brink, grabbing a 3–1 series lead behind a dominant second half and a stunning 43-point performance from Ayo Dosunmu.
But the final seconds are what everyone is talking about.
With the game effectively over, Jaden McDaniels went in for a late, uncontested layup, violating one of basketball's oldest unwritten rules. That didn't sit well with Nikola Jokic.
The three-time MVP stormed over, confronted McDaniels, and escalated the situation into a full-on scuffle that spilled across the floor. Players and staff rushed in, tensions boiled over, and Jokic, along with others, were ejected in the closing seconds.

Now, the situation is turning into something much bigger.
On Sunday, new reporting from ESPN’s Shams Charania confirmed the NBA has officially launched an investigation into the altercation, reviewing footage and conducting interviews with players and officials.
A ruling is expected before Game 5 on Monday night in Denver.

Historically, the NBA treats incidents like this with a sliding scale based on severity, escalation, and involvement.
At the low end:
- Fines (often up to $50,000) for unsportsmanlike conduct
At the mid-range:
- One-game suspensions for physical altercations or escalating confrontations
At the high end:
- Multiple-game suspensions, especially if punches are thrown or players leave the bench area
The league rulebook gives the commissioner broad authority to issue fines or suspensions for conduct "detrimental to the game."
One key detail: if players are found to have left the bench during the altercation, they can face automatic suspensions of at least one game.
There's precedent here, too. Back in 2021, Jokic himself was suspended one game for shoving Markieff Morris in a similar flashpoint moment.
As a result, a suspension for Jokic is very much on the table, even if it's just one game.

The timeline here is critical.
This isn't a retroactive slap on the wrist weeks from now. This could directly impact who's available in a win-or-go-home scenario for the Nuggets.
Game 5 shifts back to Ball Arena in Denver on Monday night, with the Timberwolves holding a commanding 3–1 lead.
Now, Jokic and McDaniels could both be in jeopardy of missing it.
