Packers Sign 7,600-Yard ACC QB to Backup Jordan Love
Without a first-round pick due to the Micah Parsons trade last offseason, the Green Bay Packers only had six picks in the 2026 NFL draft.
Green Bay added some nice depth with its selections, grabbing South Carolina cornerback Brandon Cisse in Round 2, Missouri defensive tackle Chris McClellan in Round 3, Penn State edge-rusher Dani Dennis-Sutton in Round 4, Kentucky center Jager Burton in Round 5, and Alabama cornerback Domani Jackson and Florida kicker Trey Smak in Round 6.
The Packers went heavy on defense, with Burton being the only offensive player the team drafted, however, they did add two offensive players immediately after the draft ended on undrafted free-agent deals.
"Former Virginia Tech QB Kyron Drones is signing with the Packers, source said," NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported.
Drones started his college career at Baylor before transferring to Viriginia Tech as a sophomore. In three years with the Hokies, Drones compiled 5,784 yards passing, 45 touchdowns, and 19 interceptions while rushing for another 1,847 yards and 22 touchdowns. He led Virginia Tech to a 16-23 record and two bowl appearances.
Drones will face some tough competition in trying to make the Packers roster out of training camp. The team already has veteran Desmond Ridder and 2025 sixth-round pick Kyle McCord, who threw for 4,779 yards and 34 touchdowns in his senior season at Syracuse just two seasons ago, already on the roster.
Green Bay also signed former Florida Gators wide receiver J.Michael Strudivant, a former four-star WR and top-200 national recruit in the class of 2021, as well.
In four seasons split between UCLA, California, and Florida, Sturdivant totaled 150 catches, 2,073 yards, and 16 touchdowns.
